Best milk frothers 2026

Three well-reviewed standalone milk frothers for lattes and cappuccinos without a steam wand, from a Top pick to a Best value pick. Chosen on review reputation, with maker prices checked Oct 24, 2026.

Top pick Mid pick Best value pick

No steam wand, or just want an easier way to froth? A standalone frother turns milk into foam for lattes and cappuccinos. If your machine has a wand, a milk frothing pitcher is usually the better buy. We chose these on review reputation, not commission, and we do not bench-test or use the gear. Prices are each maker's own U.S. store price.

Ranked from Top pick to Best value pick.

Top pick

Subminimal NanoFoamer PRO

$159.00maker store price (USD), checked Oct 24, 2026

Chosen on review reputation

Subminimal's NanoFoamer PRO is a standalone electric frother that heats and textures milk in its own jug, and reviewers praise it for making genuinely pourable, latte-art-ready microfoam without a steam wand. Temperature and texture are adjustable, and it handles plant milks well.

  • Pourable microfoam for latte art, no steam wand needed
  • Adjustable temperature and texture
  • Works well with oat and other plant milks

Mid pick

Subminimal NanoFoamer (Lithium, rechargeable)

$49.95maker store price (USD), checked Oct 24, 2026

Chosen on review reputation

The original NanoFoamer is a handheld frother with a fine screen that breaks bubbles down into smoother foam than a plain whisk. Home baristas rate it highly as a cheap way to get close to café texture from milk you heat separately; this is the rechargeable lithium version.

  • Fine screen for smoother microfoam
  • Rechargeable lithium battery
  • Small enough to keep in a drawer

Best value pick

Zulay Milk Boss handheld frother

$9.99maker store price (USD), checked Oct 24, 2026

Chosen on review reputation

Zulay's handheld frother is one of the best-rated budget wands among owners: a simple whisk that whips warm or cold milk into foam in seconds. It makes airy, stiff foam rather than latte-art microfoam, but for cappuccino-style tops at home it is hard to beat for the price.

  • Lowest price here
  • Froths warm or cold milk in seconds
  • Battery powered, easy to rinse clean

FAQ

Do I need a milk frother if my machine has a steam wand?

Not usually. A steam wand plus a good pitcher makes the best microfoam. A standalone frother suits machines with no wand, pod machines, moka pots and AeroPress, or anyone who wants milk drinks without learning to steam.

Can a handheld frother make latte art?

A basic whisk makes airy foam that is hard to pour. A screened frother like the NanoFoamer gets much closer, and an electric frother like the NanoFoamer PRO is built for pourable microfoam.

Does a handheld frother heat milk?

No. Heat the milk first (microwave or stovetop) to about 60-65 C (140-150 F), then froth. Electric jug frothers heat and froth in one step.

How did you choose these frothers?

On review reputation among well-known coffee reviewers and home-barista communities. Commissions play no part, and the links go straight to each maker's store. We have not tested these frothers ourselves.

Where do the prices come from?

Each maker's own U.S. store price in USD, checked Oct 24, 2026. Prices change, and retailers may sell for less.
