Gift guide
Three well-reviewed gifts for a Barista Express owner that fit its 54mm setup, from a Top pick to a Best value pick. Store prices checked Oct 25, 2026.
The Breville Barista Express is one of the most popular home espresso machines, which makes it one of the most common machines to shop accessories for. The catch: it uses a 54mm portafilter, and many well-known tampers, funnels and distribution tools are 58mm only. So our three picks work regardless of basket size. We chose them on review reputation, not commission, and we do not bench-test or use the gear. Prices are each store's own U.S. price.
Ranked from Top pick to Best value pick.
Top pick
$43.95maker store price (USD), checked Oct 25, 2026
Chosen on review reputation
Breville's own Knock Box 20 is made to sit next to Breville home machines like the Barista Express. A knock box gives spent pucks somewhere to go besides the sink or trash, and it fits any portafilter, so there is no basket-size guesswork for the gift giver.
Mid pick
$55.00maker store price (USD), checked Oct 24, 2026
Chosen on review reputation
The Barista Express has no built-in scale, and weighing the dose and the shot is the most common upgrade reviewers suggest for it. Timemore's Black Mirror Basic 2.0 is a widely recommended espresso scale with a timer, and it fits on the drip tray under most portafilters. Check drip tray clearance if they use tall cups.
Best value pick
$11.95maker store price (USD), checked Oct 25, 2026

Breville's Group Head Cleaner sachets are made for cleaning Breville espresso machines, which use a cleaning cycle with the included cleaning disc. A six-pack is a useful stocking stuffer that keeps the group head and shower screen clean.
Also well regarded, from our checked price list.
Good tools, wrong size.
These are sized for 58mm portafilters and are not drop-in fits for the 54mm Barista Express: Fellow magnetic dosing funnel (58mm), Normcore magnetic dosing cup (58mm), Rocket Espresso magnetic dosing funnel (58mm), Normcore needle distributor V3 (planetary), 58mm, Normcore V4.1 spring-loaded tamper, 58mm, Fellow Series 1 tamper, 58mm. They make good gifts for owners of 58mm machines; see our dosing cups and funnels and tampers and WDT tools guides.

54mm. Many popular tampers, dosing funnels and distribution tools are made for 58mm portafilters and will not fit it. Look for 54mm or Breville-specific sizing, or pick gifts that do not depend on basket size.
One that does not depend on basket size. Our Top pick is the Breville Knock Box 20, followed by the Timemore Black Mirror Basic 2.0 scale and Breville Group Head Cleaner sachets as a low-cost stocking stuffer.
The knock box, scale, pitchers, WDT tools and canisters work with any espresso machine. The Barista Pro also uses a 54mm portafilter. For tampers and cleaning products, confirm the model first.
On review reputation among well-known espresso reviewers and home-barista communities. Commissions play no part, and the links go straight to each store. We have not tested these products ourselves.
Each store's own U.S. price in USD, checked Oct 25, 2026. Prices change, and Black Friday prices may be lower.
