FAQ

Do I need a separate grinder for my espresso machine?

Yes, unless the machine has one built in. Espresso needs a fine, adjustable grind made just before brewing, and most pre-ground coffee and filter grinders cannot go fine enough.

How much should I spend on a grinder compared with the machine?

A common rule in home-barista communities is to spend roughly as much on the grinder as on an entry machine, and never let the grinder be the weak link. A great machine with a poor grinder makes poor espresso.

Is this a good gift pairing?

A machine plus a matched grinder is the most useful espresso gift, because it removes the most common reason first shots disappoint. If someone already owns a machine, a grinder from this list is often the best upgrade.

How did you choose these pairings?

On review reputation among well-known espresso reviewers and home-barista communities, matched to each machine's basket and price tier. Commissions play no part. We have not tested this gear ourselves.

Should I buy now or wait for Black Friday?
